Dec 7th Conversation at the Gingerman
It is now December, so time for a change of time and venue. On wedesdays in Advent (the season prior to Christmas) we have a soup supper and also a short vespers service at 7pm in the sanctuary. This service is usually over by 7:30pm or so, but given the time to get to the T&P, I don't think that will work out. So for December we will meet on Dec. 7th and 21st at 7:45pm at the Gingerman Pub on Camp Bowie (next door to the CVS). A little closer location will help me get there on time!
For conversation one of our regulars, Larry Kemp, suggested the topic. He happened to be reading Luther's Small Catechism online and posted a couple questions to me on my facebook wall. So I figure why not make that a feature of conversation for a couple weeks. Especially since some of you are new to Lutheranism, this might spur some good conversation.
For background, Luther's Catechism was a little instruction book intended for lay people to teach their families the faith. He discusses the 10 commandments, Apostles Creed, Lord's Prayer and the Sacraments. We will be focusing on the 3 articles (sections) of the Apostles Creed and Luther's explanation of them. Each article discusses on member of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) Since each article is unique to itself, if you miss a week, that won't be a problem.
Dec. 7th: 2nd Article (God the Son)-Gingerman
Dec. 21st: 3rd Article (God the Holy Spirit)-Gingerman
As you read them I encourage you to keep in mind three questions…
1) What in this clicks with what you knew before?
2) What is new to you here? Different than what you thought? Strange/Weird?
3) How would you explain this aspect of the creed to someone who had never heard it before?
See y'all on Wednesday!!!
PS: in case you don't have a small catechism lying around. ;-)
