An overview of how what we eat affects our health, our neighbor, and our world.
Menu Matters series is co-sponsored by Outreach & Social Concerns and Congregational Life Commissions. Weekly topics will relate to the issue of food instability (government jargon for “hunger”). Please join us for a 20-minute presentation each week, which will include film clips, skits, games, handouts, try-this-at-home ideas and, of course, a meal!
Feb 29 Mythbusters – Learn how food choices affect your health.
Meal: Veggie Shawarma (it’s like an Arabic fajita, with a soy-based meat substitute), rice, salad
Mar 7 The Human Bean – A discussion of how our personal food choices affect our neighbors.
Meal: Meatless Chili, cornbread, salad
Mar 14 Hard Choices – An awareness of national policies that affect our food supply. Do they help or
hinder the hunger issue?
Meal: A selection of two typical “food stamp” meals: Bean Burritos and Broccoli Rice Casserole
Mar 21 100-Mile Meal – Our food choices impact the environment. How can we be good stewards of
God’s creation?
Meal: Enchiladas, salad. All ingredients sourced from with-in a 100-mile radius of Ft. Worth
Mar 28 World Hunger: Haiti – Our actions in America can have both positive and negative effects on
other countries’ food supplies.
Meal: A sampling of Haitian recipes
Alternate kids’ meal: Grilled cheese sandwiches and applesauce. This will also be available each week for ANYONE who chooses not to eat the featured menu.
Cost: Adults - $5 Kids (2-10) - $2.50 TLCC Families - Free
